Imphal, June 23 2013: Following the State Cabinet decision to take over 12/13 acres of land including the royal palace, leaders of several women organisations have stationed themselves at the palace to protect it from any Government onslaught.

Speaking to media persons at the royal palace today, Sana Konung Shemgat Lup president Ch Gopalmacha said that they were astonished by the State Government’s sudden change of mind and the accompanying decision to take over the royal palace after the organisation and the Government had struck agreement on February 26, 2006 .

The existing royal palace is a ‘living palace’ and an institution.

The Merger Agreement not only guaranteed customary rights of the Manipur kings but also classified the royal palace and its compound as private properties, Gopalmacha asserted.
