Mysterious disease claims over 10 ponies

Imphal, June 27 2013: The outbreak of a mysterious disease, the likes of which have never been seen or experienced before has claimed the lives of at least 10 ponies in the last one week.

Of the 10 dead ponies, two belonged to Meiraba Polo Club, three to Roop Kumar Polo CLub, three to others (not named), one to ESC Nongmeibung Polo Club and one to Khurai Polo Club.

Informing this in a statement issued to the press today, the All Manipur Polo Association has urged the State Government and the State Veterinary Department to look into the matter on a priority basis and diagnose the disease.

The Manipur pony is a unique spicemen and is closely associated with the history of the land and the game of Polo.
