No job provision for Everesters CM

Imphal, June 26 2013: Chief Minister Okram ibobi Singh has conceded that the State Government has no specific plan, as yet, to provide Government jobs to State climbers who recently scaled Mount Everest.


Responding to a poser from Konthoujam AC MLA K Sarat of the Trinamool Congress during the question/answer hour at the ongoing Assembly session today, the CM, who also holds the Youth Affairs and Sports portfolio, informed the members that Rs 10 lakh each have been awarded to the successful climbers with Rs 2 lakh presented to the leader of the North East expedition team in appreciation of their effort and to boost their morale.


While there is a specific policy of granting suitable jobs to excellent sports-persons of Manipur the Govern- ment is yet to work out similar provision for mountain climbers, iterated the CM adding that the Government is seriously deliberating on ways to extend all possible assistance to adventure sports- persons who bring laurels to the State.


To a query from Trinamool congress MLA Th Shyam-kumar of Andro AC, O Ibobi stated that as per 2001 census and Manipur Municipalities (election of councillor) Rule 1994 Ward no.2 of Andro Nagar Panchayat is reserved for female candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes.


A Manipur Gazette Notification (No.386) to this effect was also issued on December 3, 2010, the CM maintained.


As MAHUD Minister, Ibobi informed the House that the Government is targeting to complete construction of Singjamei Market Portion-I within June 16 next year.


With the temporary shed construction already completed shifting to the temporary shed would commence very soon to begin construction of the main market, said the CM replying to Thongju AC MLA Th Bishorjit.


Joining the debate, Deputy CM and Home Minister Gaikhangam said the killing of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Th Kishan, Y Token and A Rajen is being investigated by the cbi while the main accused in the murder case is serving prison term at Delhi’s Tihar Jail.


The DyCM was responding to Trinamool Congress legislator from Thangmeiband AC Kh Joykisan.


To a poser from Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing confided that non-release of the State share has been impeding early completion of the 50-bedded hospital at Tamenglong district headquarters which was undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 2126.31 lakhs.


The said hospital will have specialist doctors, added the Minister.


Replying to NCP legislator L Ibomcha, Phungzathang said a total of 5756 candidates had applied for the 2013 MBBS/BDS combined entrance examination which was shelved consequent to a supreme Court ruling on May 13 .


According to IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, land compensation has already been paid to land owners of Kakhulong and Paona bazar areas, affected by the Nambol Project while process is underway to clear compensation for buildings and standing properties.


Affirming that the pending compensation would be cleared at the earliest, he also assured Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo that all possible measures would be initiated to ensure that all the land owners are covered by the compensation package.
