URF cadres held for extorting Police

Imphal, June 21 2013 : Police today clarified that the four United Revolutionary Front (URF) militants who have been reportedly abducted by unidentified armed persons were rather arrested by the police in connection with extortion.


Superintendent of Police (Imphal West) K Jayanta said in a statement today that Puyam Ruhini alias Moiyaima alias Biren Meitei (51) of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai; Huidrom Shantikumar alias Pamel Meitei (37) of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai; Yumnam Shantikumar alias Raja Meitei (36) of Irom Meijirao Mamang Leikai and Konthoujam Premjit Singh alias Nimai alias Konthouba Singh (32) of Thiyam Khunjao Maning Leikai were arrested by a team of Lamphel PS in connection with FIR No 133 (6) 2013 u/s 307/364/384/506/511/34 IPC and 16/17/20 UA (p) A Act of Lamphel PS.


Further, a case FIR No 133(6)2013 LPL-PS was registered on the basis of a complain lodged by the President of All Manipur Petro- leum Tanker’s Union with the DGP Manipur on May 4, 2013.Accordingly, OC Lamphel PS has been directed to conduct discrete enquiry and after conducting the enquiry, a formal regular case has been registered at Lamphel PS, the statement said.


Incriminating mobile phone number 8414066926 which was used in extortion and intimidation to the President of AMPTU was also recovered and seized from their possession, it added.


A black colour Tavera Car registered in the name of one Kh Lukhoi Singh s/o (L) Kh Bidhu Singh of Nagamapal which was used by the cadres in their illegal activities was also seized, the police statement added.
