Two hurt in factional gunfight

Kohima, June 25 2013: Two cadres were injured, while a student leader escaped unhurt in a factional gunfight of the NSCN here today.


Armed cadres of the NSCN (K) and NSCN (Unification) opened fire on each other at the PWD and Midland Colony at 10:15 am, Superintendent of Police Kohima Rothih� Tetseo said.


Kohima town commander of NSCN-K Medoneizo Nakhro and ‘major’ Balie of the rival faction (Khole-Kitovi), better known as NSCN-Unification, were injured in the firing, he said.


Assistant General Secretary of Naga Students’ Federation Christopher Ltu had a narrow escape as the one of the assailants fired directly on his car, with the bullets piercing through the windshield and striking the back seat without hitting the three occupants inside, he said.


Nakhro and Balie were admitted to hospital where they were put in intensive care.


A NSCN-U ‘captain’ Nikavi Sumi was arrested during a search of the area and arms were seized from him, the SP added.
