Widow appeals

Source:

Imphal, June 26 2013: Widow of slain driver Sorokhaibam Babu has made a fervent appeal to the drivers of the State to suspend their service till highways are fully sanitised with the establishment of a highway protection force.

In a press conference held here today, Babu’s wife Shanti while requesting the drivers to heed her appeal urged the drivers’ wives not to leave their husbands until a highway protection force is set up by the State Government.

Saying that different forms of harassment and ill treatment have been constantly meted out to the drivers operating along the highways, Shanti said that she has made the appeal as she does not want to see more deaths.

Shanti’s husband Sorokhaibam Babu (44) of Samurou Awang Leikai was shot dead by unknown miscreants at a place between K Senam and Charoi Pandongba villages on NH-37 on April 17 this year.

Shanti said that her husband might have still been alive if adequate security personnel were there at the place.
