Imphal, June 28 2013 : The mortal remains of Sepoy John Lalumi Vaiphei of 35 Rashtriya Rifles, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while fighting terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir on June 24 was accorded full military honours on arrival at Imphal airport on June 27 .


The mortal remains was then taken to his native village, Belam Veng in Churachandpur district under military escort and laid to rest today amid befitting military tributes as per traditions of the Indian Army, informed a PIB (DW) release adding that the solemn occasion was attended by relatives, friends, military and civil dignitaries.


A dedicated and committed soldier, Sepoy John Lalumi Vaiphei was recruited into The 1st Battalion, Assam Regiment in 2008 and was later deputed to 35 Rastriya Rifles where he made the supreme sacrifice for the Nation.


He is survived by his wife Chingzozam.


This martyrdom and supreme sacrifice made by the brave soldier will serve an inspiration to youths of the entire region to serve their motherland with honour, affirmed the release.
