Imphal, June 26 2013: A two-day demonstration workshop on building with bamboo organised by Manipur State Bamboo Mission of State Forest Department has kick started at the conference hall of department today.
The workshop is being organised under the sponsorship of Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), New Delhi.
Speaking as chief guest at the opening session of the workshop, Additional Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga said, bamboos are abundantly grown in Manipur and different items are also being made with bamboos by craftsmen.
He said that there is need to produce more bamboo items.
He also urged the participants to take keen interest in such workshops.
Art and Culture Commissioner RK Nimai while speaking at the function emphasised on the need for understanding the significance of bamboo in day-to-day life.
SABF founder Executive Director Kamesh Salam, BMPTC Executive Director Dr Sainashkumar Aggarwal, AK Rana of PCCF Manipur, Manipur Bamboo Mission Director H Brajamani Sharma also attended the opening session.
