Imphal, June 27 2013: Inspite of a brief scuffle and heated exchange of words between student protestors and police personnel, the formers’ attempt to storm the Manipur Legislative Assembly complex at Chingmeirong failed to materialise today.
Demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State this morning, slogan shouting protestors under the banner of Students’ Wing of Joint Committee on ILP reached Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak marched towards the Assembly but were stopped by the police.
With the protestors not obliging police instructions to move away, the security personnel deployed at the area started to snatch festoons and banners held by the protestors leading to a mild scuffle and heated exchange of words.
The police personnel, nevertheless, succeeded in dispersing the protestors from the area thus avoiding disturbance to the ongoing assembly session.
