Imphal, June 26 2013: Fortis Hospital has claimed that the hospital has become the first medical centre in India which can transplant kidney across ‘unmatched blood groups’ .


Speaking at a press conference held at Classic Hotel here today, Fortis Hospital Additional Director (Nephrology), Dr Sanjeev Gulati said, the Delhi based medical centre has successfully transplanted kidneys of two patients using ABO Incompatible kidney transplant technology recently.


He expressed hope that the technology would solve the problem of unmatched blood group while performing renal transplantations.


Saying that many patients from Manipur are also being treated at Fortis Hospital, New Delhi, Dr Sanjeev Gulati added that the hospital would talk with the Government of Manipur to work together in this regard.


He added that Fortis Hospital has also plans to impart free training on kidney dialysis for one year to State technicians.


Dr Gulati said that 13 percent of the total population of India is suffering from different renal diseases.


Saying that most of the kidney diseases are detected at advanced stage, Dr Gulati stressed on the need for having regular health check-up to detect kidney diseases before it become critical.


He further said that a free kidney check-up camp would be organised at City Hospital, Chingmeirong from 7.30 am to 1 pm tomorrow.
