Nagaland cops rescue driver

Imphal, June 29 2013 : Driver of an oil tanker abducted from near Kohima town by unknown per-sons, suspected to be activists of a Nagaland-based armed group, this morning has been rescued by a team of Nagaland police in late afternoon today.


According to an informed source, deisel tanker driver Pabitra Handique, was whisk-ed by the unidentified persons at around 4 am near Naga Hospital, which is on the out-skirts of the Nagaland State capital.


The 12 kl oil tanker was among the convoy of LPG and transport fuel carriers coming towards Manipur along with CRPF escort.


As the CRPF escort personnel bringing up the convoy’s rear spotted the oil tan-ker stranded on the highway without the driver, the driver’s assistant was asked to drive till Kohima police station where a report about the missing driver/abduction was lodged, the source informed.


It is said that a search ope-ration for the missing driver was launched under SP (Ko-hima) consequently leading to the safe rescue of Pabitra at around 4 pm.


Details about the group involved in the ab-duction cannot be confirmed.
