Imphal, June 20 2013: Three cadres of United Revolutionary Front (URF) which has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State and the Centre were abducted by some unidentified persons yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, URF assistant publicity secretary Poinu Luwang said that Home secretary Puyam Mungyamba alias Rohinikumar (55) of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, sub-supreme command committee member Huidrom Shantikumar alias Pamel (38) of Yumnam Huidrom and cadre Yumnam Shantikumar alias Raja (37) of Irom Meijrao were abducted by some people clad in plain clothes from in front of Adarsh Clinic at about 12.15 pm yesterday.
Whereas Pamel’s wife Sandhya has been undergoing physiotherapy treatment at the clinic, the trio went to the clinic to diagnose Mungyamba’s diabetic symptoms.
The trio went together with Sandhya and Home secretary Mungyamba’s wife Memton who is also commander of the outfit’s women wing.
They were travelling in a Chevrolet Tavera car.
The abductors who came in a greenish car called down the Home Secretary who was upstairs and took him away together with Pamel and Raja who were on ground.
Memton and Sandhya were inside the clinic when their male companions were abducted.
Memton who was also present at the press meet said that it would be assumed as a challenge to the peace process if any army, paramilitary or police personnel is found involved in the abduction.
The outfit came to the mainstream with an intention to resolve the armed conflict situation through dialogue but yesterday’s abduction has anguished all the cadres, Memton said.
Incidentally, URF cadres are being house at the Loitang Khunou camp of 9th Dogra Regiment as a temporary arrangement.
She further appealed for immediate and safe release of the three cadres if any UG group is behind their abduction.
