Imphal, June 09 2013: Reacting to the recent campaign of Assam Rifles launched under the banner “Know Your Army”, the proscribed RPF has called upon all the people of Manipur to know their enemies.

Denouncing the claim of AR Director General that Assam Rifles were not involved in any case of extra judicial killings in the course of counter insurgency operations in the North East, the outfit alleged that AR authorities are blatant liars.

Assam Rifles can never be friends of Manipuri people.

On the contrary, they are sworn enemies of all the indigenous people of the land, said a press release issued by the outfit’s Publicity Secretary Roben Khuman.

Alleging that Assam Rifles are notorious for committing all kinds excesses and atrocities upon the people of Manipur, RPF cited the cases of Oinam Massacre, Malom Massacre, rape and murder of Thangjam Manorama etc.

Much earlier to these unforgettable episodes when India was under British rule, it was AR personnel who bayonetted unarmed women agitators during the historic 2nd Nupi Lan.

Again, one battalion of Assam Rifles was kept in combat mode under the command of Col Ram Singh near Minuthong bridge when king Budhachandra was kept under siege at Shillong in order to force him sign the Merger Agreement.

The AR battalion was kept in combat mode to wipe out all the Manipuri people in case they rose against the infamous Merger Agreement, the outfit asserted.

Assam Rifles unleashing all kinds of repressive measures against the people of Manipur is not a recent phenomenon but dates back to the British colonial era.

Between 1979 and 2012, Assam Rifles killed 419 civilians including 10 women and 21 children.
