JCILPS men freed

Imphal, June 08, 2013: All the 28 members of the Joint Committee on Implementation of Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) in Manipur who were pulled by police yesterday have been set free without any conditions.

Speaking to media persons at DESAM office after their release, JCILPS Students’ Wing convenor Moirangthem Angamba Meitei maintained that the ongoing movement for implementation of ILPS in Manipur cannot be sidelined or subdued by arresting some leaders and volunteers.

The demand for enforcement of ILPS in Manipur is validated by Article (19), Clause 5 of the Indian Constitution and there is nothing anti-national in the demand.

He also questioned as to why ILPS cannot be implemented in other States when the system is being implemented in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

Rather than arresting and intimidating JCILPS leaders and volunteers, the State Government should understand that it is their duty to protect the indigenous people by implementing ILPS.

The State Government should exert strong pressure on New Delhi in this regard.

The ongoing movement is for all the indigenous people of Manipur including those at the helm of political power, Angamba asserted.

He urged all the MLAs to discuss the issue of ILPS in the forthcoming monsoon session of the State Assembly and take a firm resolution.

Meanwhile, the JCILPS’ agitation of prohibiting movement of outsiders in every locality of Manipur from June 6 to June 10 is going on.

Angamba appealed to all the people to carry on the agitation in the form of non-cooperation movement without attacking outsiders.
