Imphal, June 17 2013: Indian authorities have initiated due process for opening an office for issuing visa on arrival to Myanmarese nationals coming to Manipur through Moreh, particularly those coming for medical treatment.
According to an official source, the Government of India has given its approval for opening a Visa-on-Arrival office near Moreh Land Customs Office complex.
The area where an Immigration Office too would be opened would be surveyed by the Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) and Home Department officials.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary DS Poonia today convened a high-level official meeting and discussed about installing all the necessary infrastructure for the Visa-on-Arrival office at the earliest.
Among others, the meeting was attended by DGP Y Joykumar, Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) O Nabakishore and Principal Secretary (Home) Suresh Babu.
Officials of BSNL, NIS and Customs were also present at the meeting where installation of internet facilities at the visa office was one of the agenda.
Necessary immigration process for Myanmarese nationals coming to Manipur would be handled by a police team led by an Inspector.
Another agenda of the meeting was upgradation of Tulihal Airport to the status of international airport from next month.
Apart from reviewing the works being done for upgrading the airport, the meeting also deliberated on upgrading the airport’s immigration office.
It is reported that required manpower for the immigration office should be provided by Manipur Police.
