Imphal, June 18 2013: United Naga Council (UNC) has pledged to intensify its stand with a series of agitation soon against the alleged communal policies of Manipur Government and communal forces in Manipur valley.
However, the UNC did not spell out the nature of its agitation nor the time.
The UNC sponsored 48-hour bandh in ‘Naga areas’ of Manipur will end tonight (June 18 midnight) .
UNC, which has been relentlessly pushing for an ‘alternative arrangement’ for the Nagas in Manipur, has expressed unhappiness over the alleged laxity of the State Government on Tuesday saying it has not discussed for even a single minute on the long pending demand of the UNC in the current Assembly session.
It has been putting more pressure on the Centre for an ‘alternative arrangement’ for the Nagas outside the Manipur Government.
The 48-hour strike imposed by UNC from midnight of June 16 is likely to end peacefully this midnight as no untoward incident has been reported during the course of the bandh till late evening.
UNC vice president TS Warngam informed NNN that many more protests will follow soon after the ongoing 48-hour bandh that ends Tuesday midnight.
He said that the UNC feels ‘very sad’ to learn that the Manipur Government has ‘always snubbed’ its demand and it has not discussed it even for a single minute in the current Monsoon session of the State Assembly.
Warngam also thanked all the individuals who had supported the bandh.

Except for Imphal-Churachandpur inter district route, all the vehicular movements plying between the state capital Imphal and the district headquarters have been halting since Monday.
Educational institutions, shops and other business related activities halted today in the district headquarters of Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati.
Inter-state public transports too did not operate following the UNC bandh.
However, there was no untoward incident reported anywhere due to the bandh.
