Imphal, June 12 2013: Even as the State Assembly adopted a resolution to impress upon the Centre to enforce the Inner Line Permit System in the State in the last session in March this year, the State Cabinet which met today has once again decided to bring the matter for discussion during the current Assembly session.

Speaking to today evening, a reliable source informed that apart from discussing the current movement to demand the enforcement of ILPS in the State, the Cabinet also discussed the major works taken up by the Government.

Taking note of the growing demand to implement the ILPS under the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873, the Cabinet decided to bring the matter for discussion during the ongoing Assembly session and accordingly adopt a resolution to press the Centre for its implementation in the State, said the source.

Significantly although the State Assembly had earlier adopted a resolution to press the Centre for the implementation of ILPS in the State, the Union Home Ministry had turned down the proposal.

Striking the same line with the Joint Committee on the Innner Line Permit System, Chief Minister O Ibobi had on earlier occasions stated that the State Government understands the importance of implementing the same here, but had warned against barring the entry of any bonafide Indian citizens into the soil of Manipur.

Recently 28 volunteers of the JCILPS were rounded up for their activities, but were subsequently released without any conditions.

To study the trend of students opting for Alternative English in lieu of Manipur under the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, the Cabinet today decided to form a sub-committee headed by the Chief Secretary.

The sub-committee is to submit its recommendations to the Government.
