Imphal, June 11 2013: The Closed-Circuit TVs installed to help in tackling several criminal activities in Imphal area have been utter failures as many of them are non-functional or uninstalled.
CCTVs were installed at several strategic locations last year as part of police modernisation in the wake of bomb attacks at high security areas including CM and Governor’s Bungalows and Secretariat Complex.
Most of the Closed-Circuit TVs installed from the Eastern Gate of 1st MR along the median of NH-2 till North AOC via Governor Bungalow are uninstalled with an exception to few.
Notably, none of the CCTVs installed in between CM Bungalow and Raj Bhavan Gate existed till date.

At the same time, whether the CCTVs were uninstalled due to non-functioning of the cameras or they were stolen could not be confirmed.
It may be mentioned that Governor Gurbachan Jagat, while addressing the 119th Raising Day of the Manipur Police in 2011, had said that process for installation of 28 CCTV cameras at Raj Bhavan, 28 at CM’s Bungalow and 100 at Khwairamband Bazar was started.
