CM’s call

Source:

Imphal, June 13 2013: Leave aside Opposition Members, some Ministers did not receive phone calls made by the Chief Minister himself, sometimes prompting the Chief Minister to send police to enquire why his phone calls were not received.

This was stated by Chief Minister O Ibobi himself to a complaint raised by Opposition members during discussion of demands about Ministers not receiving phone calls made by MLAs.

Ibobi confided that he could not make phone connection with some Ministers and very often cell phones of those Ministers were found in switch off mode.

Noting that it would be all the more embarrassing for the MLAs if they were calling Ministers in front of their workers, Ibobi stated at least their (Ministers’) wives should be asked to receive the phone calls even if the Ministers found it inconvenient to receive phone calls.

“As for me, my phone is switched on round the clock and I always keep my phone by the pillow even if I’m asleep”, stated the Chief Minister.

He also appealed to all the Ministers to receive phone calls made by House Members, if not others.

The opposition Members also put up a proposal for an arrangement under which opposition Members can meet the Chief Minister at least for two hours in a week or for a day in a month so that there is no misunderstanding and opposition Members are informed about the Government policies and plans.

To this proposal, Ibobi stated that opposition Members are welcomed any time and they are not required to seek appointment.

“But it would be very regrettable if any Member cannot meet me after waiting for hours because of consecutive meetings or absence from my office”, he confided.

He went on to suggest all the Members to call him through telephone first and check his availability before coming to his office in person.

“If I’m free, I’m ready to meet any of the Members any time”, Ibobi added.
