MLAs keep CM on his toes

Imphal, June 12 2013: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was literally on his toes for most of the day responding to queries from Opposition MLAs on a number of issues.


To a poser from Wangjing-Tentha representative P Brojen, the CM as tourism Minister said most infrastructure construction works for development of Khongjom War Memorial complex as a destination for tourists are in the final stages.


The sankritan hall, land development, approach road, river development ghat (stairway) and water treatment plant are almost complete while the project components of the open plaza and bridge to connect the main memorial site and the adjacent ground is yet to commence, said the CM on the tourism destination being implemented by Manipur Development Society at an estimated cost of Rs 361.16 lakhs.


Regarding a query from Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, Ibobi said that an open market cum bus parking have been developed at Lamphel Super Market complex after dismantling buildings of the market’s Crescent Shopping Palace.


The open market is to accommodate street vendors evicted from Naga Mapal, BT road and nearby locations of the main commercial centre, he explained.


The CM further informed that house that as per State’s reservation policy, scheduled castes candidates are entitled 2 percent, scheduled tribes 31 PC and OBCs 17 percent.


Andro AC MLA Th shyamkumar had raised the issue on the reservation policy.


To a specific poser from Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykishan, Ibobi maintained that development works implemented by Manipur Development Society are examined by a Work Programme Committee headed by himself.
