Imphal, June 13 2013: Gearing up for the 48 hours total bandh in Naga areas slated to begin from midnight of Jun 16, the United Naga Council (UNC) has solicited the cooperation and goodwill of the general public towards making the agitation a peaceful and violence-free one.
In a public appeal today, the UNC urged all right thinking Nagas and tribal to extend unstinted solidarity and support towards the protest for a shared future outside the clutch of ‘communal GoM’ .
The UNC also instructed all Naga tribe Hohos and regional organisations to take up appropriate steps in their respective jurisdiction for the effective observance of the total bandh.
The UNC has called the 48 hours total bandh in Naga areas from midnight of June 16 as decided in their presidential council meeting held on June 3 to protest against the unabated ‘communal actions and policies of the GoM’ and the ‘communal forces in Imphal valley’ and to urge the Government of India to intervene immediately with an alternative arrangement.
“Nagas have consistently maintained that we are not communal.
But the Nagas and tribals cannot have their identity respected; have their land and way of life protected; live with dignity and honour under the alleged communal Government of Manipur and with the communal forces in Imphal valley.
The sharp social divide on communal lines in the present State of Manipur cries out for immediate intervention of the Government of India with an alternative arrangement outside the GoM,” asserted the UNC.
