Imphal, July 15 2013: Heavy vehicles are still stranded at Kohima along Imphal-Dimapur highway after a 300 metre long section of the highway sunk there.
The highway section sunk in the intervening night of last Friday and Saturday.
Since then transhipment of all essential commodities to Manipur has been stopped through this route.
Even though BRTF has been working hard to restore the highway, they have achieved little progress on account of the inclement weather.
With the highway disconnected for the past three days, the Government of Nagaland has taken serious note of the matter and started putting in efforts in earnest.
In accordance with an instruction from the Government of Nagaland, Works and Housing Minister of the neighbouring State Azo Nienu has convened a high level meeting with the Chief Engineer of GREF (Border Roads) tomorrow.

Apart from the Chief Engineer of GREF (Border Roads), the meeting would be attended by leaders of the Southern Angami Youth Organisation and local village councils.
The meeting scheduled at the Secretariat of Azo Nienu would adopt a concrete decision on restoring the highway within a time frame.
Meanwhile, BRTF has intimated the Imphal office of IOC that stranded trucks particularly oil tankers and LPG bullets may take an alternative route along Kohima-Chakabama-Zakhama road maintained by Nagaland PWD.
Subsequent upon the intimation, movement of oil tankers and LPG bullets with CRPF escorts may resume tomorrow, informed an official of the IOC’s Chingmeirong depot.
