Imphal, July 25 2013: A non-local scrap collector has been shot dead at Mayang Langjing of Imphal West district at around 4 pm today.
According to information culled from the spot, a youth who came on a Kinetic Honda scooter fired a bullet on the head of the non-local who went to the locality to collect iron scraps on his thela rickshaw.
The scrap collector died at the spot.
Lamphel SDPO Kasar and Lamshang police station OC Sarat visited the crime site where an empty case was recovered.
According to the voter identity card found on him, the deceased is suspected to be one Sajahan SK (38) son of Sakeel SK of Pada Jiddipada in Mursidabad, Uttar Pradesh.
However, according to locals, the non-local often came at Mayang Langjing and Phumlou areas to collect iron scraps and identified himself as Md Kalam of West Bengal.
Even as Lamshang police station has registered a case in connection with the incident, body of the deceased has been deposited at RIMS morgue.
