Ukhrul, July 15 2013: Normal life was affected in Ukhrul as the indefinite public curfew imposed by the Tangkhul Frontal Organisation (TFO) came into force since last midnight on the demand for transfer of the incumbent Ukhrul DC.
Business establishments and educational institutions remained closed and vehicles stayed off the road on the first day of the indefinite public curfew here.
The smooth functioning of almost all the offices of the district were reportedly affected by the curfew.
However, students of Somsai Assam Rifle High school were seen going to school amidst the public curfew.
No untoward incident has been reported in the district though.
Alleging failure of the DC on various fronts, the TFO has been demanding the transfer of the DC.
The TFO had also served an ultimatum to the concerned authority for the removal of the DC.
The Tangkhul Frontal Organisation has been peeved at the deployment of heavy security in the district by the authority concerned in spite of fulfilling its demand.
The Frontal Organization representatives while speaking to media persons today said that the relationship with the public and the incumbent DC is a total failure.
Poor attendance of staff in his office marked his rein as the district administrator causing inconveniences to the public, they said.
They also alleged that the victim’s families of Konkan village killing are betrayed by the DC, while also alleging him of converting the Mini Secretariat Transit Camp into pleasure House and his negligence to the welfare of the district in many ways.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary demanding the immediate transfer of incumbent DC from the district.
A memorandum submitted by the Tangkhul apex bodies cited irregularity, failure of maintaining cordial relations with the public, abusing power, abetment to liquor smuggling, militarisation the district, leaving the education sector in a deplorable condition and others on the part of the DC that prompted the bodies to demand his transfer from the district.
Besides, the Tangkhul bodies also accused the DC of ‘extorting public money at pen-point’ .
