Tankers at Jiri, however procceding to Imphal a doubt

Source:

Jiribam, July 21 2013: Oil tankers and LPG bullets stranded at different parts of Nagaland since a section of Imphal-Dimapur highway sank near Heritage village, Kohima have started arriving here.

The vehicles which arrived here today included 16 LPG bullets, 14 petrol tankers, 14 diesel tankers and three SK oil tankers.

The tankers would be sent in to Imphal on Tuesday, reports our correspondent.

However transporters who proceeded up to Jiribam today have stated that it would not be possible for the tankers to proceed to Imphal as a 26 kms stretch on the highway is in abysmal state.

According to the transporters, the conditions at Sibilong, Barak and Nung Dolan, covering a distance of 26 kms are unfit for oil tankers to pass through.

If the 26 kms stretch of road are not reinforced, then it would be hazardous for the oil tankers, said the transporters and added that there is a big difference in manoeuvring oil tankers and other heavy vehicles on such treacherous routes.

On the other hand, IOC officials who have gone to Jiribam to receive the oil tankers have urged the authority concerned to prepare escort parties for the vehicles.

A source said that escort parties are ready to accompany the oil tankers and other heavy vehicles from Jiribam to Imphal.
