Imphal, July 20 2013 : Following a PIL filed in High Court of Manipur by Community Network for Empower- ment seeking the setting up of Viral Load testing machine in the State and availing OI drugs free of cost, the Court has today directed the respondents to respond to the petition within three weeks.


A division bench of the High Court of Manipur consisting Chief Justice AM Sa- pre and Justice N Kotiswar passed the order yesterday.


The respondents listed in the petition included Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National AIDS Control Organisation, Manipur AIDS Control Society, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Nodal Officer of Centre of Excellence ART Centre, RIMS and Manipur Government.


The PIL was filed in March this year by the president of Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE), RK Nolinikanta.


The PIL seeks setting up of Viral Load testing equipment in Imphal, availing op- portunistic infections (OI) drugs free of cost, informed CoNE counsel Kh Tarun-kumar.


Besides, the petitioner also sought making the ART centres more hygienic and to equip such centres with pro-per drinking water and toilet facilities.
