Imphal, July 28 2013: Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhaya during an unofficial visit to Imphal today promised maximum efforts in order to improve connectivity between India’s North East and Myanmar.

The Ambassador was accorded a warm reception at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.

Before the formal reception function started, Gautam Mukhopadhaya was shown around Shija Hospital by its Managing Director Dr Kh Palin.

Speaking at the reception function, Gautam Mukhopadhaya said that people of North East region as well as Myanmar encounter a lot of inconveniences while criss crossing across the border because of passport and visa problems.

“I will take up this matter with the Ministry of External Affairs so as to reduce these inconveniences as far as possible”, assured the Ambassador.

He further promised to put in maximum efforts towards establishing better connectivity including air connectivity between North East region and Myanmar.

Shija Hospital’s recent effort of providing medical service to Myanmarese people would prove to be a significant contribution in the two countries’ ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, Gautam remarked.

Shija Hospital’s visit to Myanmar would go a long way in changing the Myanmarese people’s notion of Manipuris being very hostile.

Later, Dr Palin showed the medical facilities available in Shija Hospital by presenting a slide show.

He also explained about Shija’s cleft project and Mission Myanmar.
