Thoubal, July 19 2013 : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today inaugurated the building of District and Sessions Court, Thoubal, constructed by State PWD under Law and Legislative Affairs Ministry with Rs 1.5 crore.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that a similar Court would be set up for Bishnupur district as well within a month.
Urging the Judges of Manipur to deliver justice to the people without any bias, O Ibobi promised that necessary security would be provided by the State Government if needed.
Manipur Chief Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre while speaking at the function said that inauguration of a District and Sessions Court is a historic event as the newly inaugurated Court is the first of its kind in the State.

He also lauded the scholars and legal luminaries of the State for making wholehearted effort to have a separate High Court and Sessions Court for districts.
Saying that efforts are being made to set up District and Sessions Courts in other districts as well, Manohar Sapre added that the Centre is currently reviewing the needs and necessary funds for the said purpose.
Speaking at the occasion, Advocate General Th Ibohal expressed hope that number of pending cases in the Courts of Manipur would come down considerably as the new District and Sessions Court would now join Manipur High Court, Manipur West Sessions Court and Manipur East Sessions Court in resolving many cases.
Manipur High Court Judge T Kotishwor, Manipur High Court Bar Association President, representatives of Thoubal District Bar Association, CJM Thoubal and high ranking officials also attended the function.
