Imphal, July 20 2013 : People in large number bid tearful farewell to Subedar Major (Hony) BS Peterson as his mortal remains was laid to rest at his native village in Tampi Chakpikarong, chandel district on July 19 .
The funeral service held from 11 am till around 2 pm was attended by more than 1000 people comprising of public leaders, social workers, Govt officials, villagers, relatives and well wishers.
Among those who offered floral tributes to Peterson, included former MP/MLA BD Behring, Major Sunil of 32 Assam Rifles Salluk Post, ALT president Kohring, SUR president Benithan, Rev Fr Mark Mangkhanpou and UNC vice president TS Warngam.
In his lifetime, Peterson is said to have contributed significantly in the construction/development of public playground at Tampi village under the military civic action programme, construction of BD Behluwng memorial Town hall at chakpikarong Bazar as well as in the revival/reopening of the SBI Chakpikarong branch.
The highlight of the funeral service was presentation of regimental song and floral tributes to Peterson by ex-servicemen and military personnel.
