Imphal, July 19 2013 : A gunfight broke out between two villages located between Thoubal and Chandel districts on last night killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring two others .

The gunfight broke between villagers of T Minou, a tribal village in Chandel and neighboring Sora, a Muslim village in Thoubal on Thursday night around 7.30 forcing the police to keep a sharp vigil at the two villages to restrain further clash.

Relations between the two villages have been tensed after police arrested three Sora villagers in connection with the recent killing of DK James aka Mosilpha (60), the cousin brother of Congress MLA DK Korungthang from Chandel district.

The body of James with multiple injuries on his head was found near his T Minou village on July 3 .

Thursday’s incident triggered after a wild rumor of a Sora villager being abducted from the village mosque by villagers of T Minou spread, a source said.

Subsequently, a large number of Sora villagers rushed towards T Minou to rescue the man and the clash broke out near Kakching Lamkhai killing the boy and injuring the two, all belonging to Sora.

Another source said that the incident happened when Sora villagers went to Minou village to bring about a settlement on the killing of James.

The boy who was killed in the gunfight and identified as Nizamuddin, was hit by a bullet on his head.

He succumbed to his injury on the way to hospital in Imphal.

Two other injured villagers- Safi Moulubi (28) and Mohammad Rashid (18)- are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Imphal East and they are said to be out of danger.

A huge number of forces have been deployed at the two villages to control further clash and the situation has been brought under control, a police officer said adding that investigation has been started to determine the reality of the incident.

Sora villagers, who formed a Joint Action Committee ( JAC) against the incident, will urge the Government to book the perpetrators at the earliest, a Muslim leader said.

A late report said Thursday night’s firing was made by a team of police who took position along the way to Minou village.

” We have studied last night’s incident and taking into account the versions of many of the villagers, who were on the spot, amd it has been established that the firing was made by the police,” said Md Najim , convener of the JAC.

” Now we demand the State government to hold a high level probe into the incident and punish the guilty police personnel responsible for last night firing,” Najim added.
