Imphal, June 07, 2013: In what could be a major blow to the ongoing campaign for implementation of ILPS in Manipur, 28 members of the Joint Committee on Implementation of Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) have been pulled up by police today.
According to a source, the JCILPS volunteers were pulled up from different places by different teams of Imphal East District Police and Imphal West District starting from this morning.
Imphal West District Police apprehended 19 volunteers as their Imphal East counterparts pulled up 9 volunteers.
Among the apprehended volunteers are NIPCO president Sunil Karam and general secretary Rishikesh.
JCILPS Students’ Wing convenor Moirangthem Angamba Meitei, co-convenor Johnson, SUK president Jayenta, deputy secretary Anil, member Angouton Khuman, DESAM general secretary Arambam Thoithoi and four volunteers were also apprehended.
However, police have not yet divulged what kind of action would be initiated against them.
Notably, JCILPS in pursuit of their demand for implementing ILPS in Manipur undertook a campaign of barring outsiders from entering Manipur from June 1 to 5.It also declared to prohibit movement of outsiders in all localities of the State from June 10. Chief Minister O Ibobi remarked that the activities taken up by JCILPS were anti-national and would be responded in befitting manner.
