Ukhrul, June 13 2013: An incensed mob of Ukhrul today torched two vehicles including one vehicle used reportedly by Assam Rifles in transportation of local liquor.
Sources said around 2100 litres of liquor (worth around Rs 2 lakh in local market) transported from Andro towards Ukhrul were intercepted by volunteers of Ukhrul frontal organisations this morning around 3 at Lambui Check post.
The owner of the liquor has been identified as Awon of Hungpung.
Assam Rifles personnel forcibly took possession of the seized liquor and took them to their camp.
Immediately, leaders of the frontal organizations went to the Assam Rifle post to enquire the matter, but were denied to meet the AR officer.
At around 9.45 am today, an AR vehicle loaded with 2100 litres of the consignment which headed to Ukhrul was intercepted at Hungpung by the public.

When enquired, the commander of the AR team, Subedar Govind Singh said that they came to deposit the seized liquor to the police station.
But when asked to produce official relevant documents for deposition and carrying of the illicit goods, they could not give satisfactory reply.
Infuriated, the public then torched the private vehicle (Di NL01A-3559) used in transportation of the illicit alcohol.
On getting information about the incidents, SDO of Ukhrul and Police team rushed to the spot to neutralise the situation, but failed.
At around 12 noon, a second vehicle of the army bearing registration number NL 11-2305 and was set ablaze by the mob.
Meanwhile, holding the district administration responsible for the incident, various frontal organisations of the district slammed the district administration for its alleged failure.
President of TKS ruled the possibility of the involvement of the police in the game.
