Women vendors staging a rally in support of ILPS

Imphal, June 09 2013: Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel today staged a protest demonstration followed by a mass rally in solidarity to the ongoing campaign spearheaded by the Joint Committee on Implementation of Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) in Manipur.

Women vendors staged sit-in-protest at six different places including the three multi-storeyed market complexes and the temporary market shed.

In the afternoon, the women vendors converged together and took out a mass rally.

Crossing the Congress Bhavan and Kangla western gate, the rally marched towards the Chief Minister’s office.

But the marchers were blocked by police near western Kangla gate and they were forced to turn back along BT Road.

The rally ended at the starting point.

Notably, the JCILPS and its students’ wing announced different forms of agitation in pursuit of the demand for implementation of ILPS in Manipur from June 1 to 10.Later on, they declared to extend their agitation till June 15 .
