Imphal, June 14 2013 : The 12th Protest Day observance of All Manipur United clubs’ Organisation was held today at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai.
The observance was held to denounce ‘without territorial limit’ clause in the agreement between Government of India and NSCN (IM) for ceasing hostility.
The agreement signed at Bangkok on June 14, 2001 had sparked a massive public protest against extension of the ceasefire agreement to Manipur’s territory.
Speaking at the commemorative event, AMUCO president KT Rehman, who is also Observance Committee chairman, highlighted that in the subsequent public uprising against ‘without territorial limit’ clause, 18 individuals laid down their lives on June 18, 2001 to protect Manipur’s territorial integrity.
Terming the Bangkok truce as a ploy by the Government of India to create ethnic division in Manipur, he alleged that consequent to the agreement tension continues to besiege Manipuri society.
Rehman also expressed strong resentment against district administration of Churachandpur district prohibiting publicity campaign on the upcoming 12th Great June Uprising Unity Day observance which will be jointly organised by AMUCO and UCM on June 18 .
He informed that the Deputy Commissioner (Ccpur) disallowed observance committee volunteers from carrying out publicity campaign in the district on the ground that loud-speakers cannot be used.
The AMUCO president, nevertheless appealed to every section of the society to join in the upcoming observance.
