Imphal, June 14 2013 : Informing the House that Delhi police are investigating the controversial death of Ukhrul girl Reingamphy Awungshi at a South Delhi rented room, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam has assured that all possible measures will be take up by the Government of Manipur.

Responding to Opposition member Dr I Ibohalbi’s call attention motion during which the Trinamool Congress legislator also expressed suspicion of foul play in the girl’s death, Gaikhangam stated that the State Government had been regularly seeking reports about the progress of the investigation from Delhi police.

Opining that intervention in the Delhi police probe or the slightest hint that Manipur Government does not have faith in the ongoing investigation might demoralise the investigators in confirming the cause of the girl’s demise, the Home Minister said until and unless the complete report is received here the Government cannot act in haste.

If the need arises the Union Home Minister would be apprised to look into the matter, he maintained.

In his presentation, Dr Ibohalbi expressed strong resentment against alleged reluctance by Delhi police who presumed Reingamphy’s death was a case of drug abuse and suicide.

Criticising racial discrimination of people from the North East region, specially girls, by Delhi police, the Oinam AC MLA demanding detailed information on the second post mortem report also asked what steps Government of Manipur has taken to pull up Delhi police personnel for alleged dereliction of duty.
