Imphal, June 12 2013: The trial Court has convicted four accused persons including two IRB personnel in the rape case of an U Morok trader today.
The Court will announce the quantum of punishment for the four persons on June 19 .
The four persons who were convicted by the Court of Session Judge, Manipur West, Salam Ibomcha are Laikhuram Rojit (25) s/o Tomba of Porompat JN Hospital Road, IRB Havildar Chungkham Ibomcha (37) s/o Shamu of Thongju Boroi Makhong, Salam Bijen (34) s/o Gourababu of Uripok Sorbon Thingel and IRB Rifleman Kshetrimayum Kenedy s/o Achou of Kongpal Chanam Leikai.

The Court convicted Laikhuram Rojit under IPC Section 376 (Rape), 367 (Kidnapping), 25 (Armed Act), 324 (Grevious Hurt), 34 (Common Intention) and 392 (Robbery), while three other accused were convicted under IPC Section 369 (Kidnapping), 392 (Robbery), 376 (Rape), and 34 (Common Intention).
Speaking to reporters, Prosecution Director Advocate Ngangom Tejkumar said, police pleaded with the Court’s to record the statements of 90 civil and 22 police witnesses in the past five-six months.
Mentioning about the Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013 passed after infamous Delhi rape case, Tejkumar said that a rapist can be awarded 20 years to life imprisonment.
According to the new law, he said that rape cases must be completed within three months.
The rape case of the U Morok trader witnessed the fastest trial in all the rape cases reported in Manipur so far, he added.
Meanwhile, convenor of the JAC constituted against the case, Kakomlung Kamei expressed satisfaction with the progress of the trial.
She also thanked the individuals and organisations who extended co-operation to ensure the speedy trial of the case.
