Imphal, July 18 2013: With NDPS Court granting bail , Col Ajay Chowdhry, currently under suspension and two others, Assistant Manager (Customary Service) of Indigo Airlines Imphal office Ngairangbam Brojendro and 165 Bn Territorial Army personnel RK Babloo, who were lodged in jail in connection with a major drug case have been allowed to walk out from the jail today.

The bail was issued yesterday but as the jail authorities did not receive the Court order in time, the three had to spend one more night in the jail.

Nonetheless, they were allowed to walk out of the jail at 5.30 pm today.

With the Court making it clear that none of them can leave Manipur without its prior consent, the Army Colonel is expected to report to his formation or unit, the 59 Mountain Brigade at Senapati.

“It is the official procedure for officials to report to their formation,” said officiating PRO of Imphal, Colonel Emron from Kohima.

Significantly, on the other hand, the Army authority has issued an apprehension roll, an official terminology, to the State police to arrest RK Babloo, on the ground that he is a deserter, said a Defence source.

It could however not be confirmed whether the State police has received the intimation from the Army.

All three of them were in judicial custody since March 8 this year.

The Court maintained that the bail was granted as no charge-sheets were filed against them apart from detaining them in jail longer than the statutory period warranted by Section 167(2) of IPC.

Four other people imprisoned in the same drug case were granted bail and released on July 15 .

They were Minlan Haokip, Haipu Haokip, Minthang Doungel and Seikholen Haokip.

Six persons including the then Defence PRO Ajay Chowdhry were apprehended by Thoubal commandos along with a huge consignment of pseudoephedrine drugs worth Rs 25 crores in international market at Pallel on February 24 this year.

Another man, Seikholen Haokip son of sitting Congress I MLA TN Haokip was arrested from his Deulalane residence with a drug consignment the following day.
