Imphal, July 18 2013: At the instruction of Bishnupur SP Thokchom Radheshyam, personnel of Nambol police station seized 60 vehicles having no registration numbers during the past one week and collected around Rs 45,000 in the form of fine which was subsequently submitted to the District Transport Magistrate.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Nambol PS OC Laishram Premchand said that searching for unregistered vehicles after they have been stolen often puts police at a very disadvantageous position and riding/driving unregistered vehicles is an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act.
In the meantime, around 400 litres of country made liquor seized from different places within the jurisdiction of Nambol PS were set ablaze today at Nambol Keithel in the presence of local Meira Paibis.
The country made liquors were seized from Thiyam, Mekola, Heigrujam, Oinam, Kha-Jiri, Phoijing and Nambol Awang.
The liquors were disposed off after they were handed over to Excise officials.
These steps were taken at the instruction of SP Radhesyam in view of the increasing criminal activities and road accidents at Nambol and adjoining areas, said Inspector Premchand.
