Ukhrul, July 17 2013: Even as the Kohima-Jessami-Ukhrul road has emerged as an alternative route for heavy vehicles transporting essential items to the State in the wake of a stretch of road on NH-2 sinking near Kohima, the Border Area Villages’ Association (BAVA) Ukhrul has raised concern over the substandard maintenance of NH-150 by the agency concerned.
BAVA President, Augustine, while briefing the media today pointed out that the highway from Zero point Phangrei to Jessami village, Ukhrul has seen considerable damages and many portions of the highway are worsening which need immediate repair for vehicular movement.
He said that transporters and commuters refused to take the highway due to frequent occurrence of landslide and the subsequent failure of the agency concerned to clear the road.
The northern villagers of Ukhrul district under the banner, Border Area Villages Association had conducted a highway inspection recently while pointing out the failure of Border Road Organization in maintaining the highway.
Augustine further questioned the concerned 25 BRTF, BRO, Ukhrul if they have taken any measure for mending potholes, collapsing culverts and remedial measure for sinking areas.
Maintaining that the highway is still in a pathetic condition, he asserted that substandard maintenance of the highway would not last even for couple of months.
Deputy Speaker, Preshaw Shimray and DC Ukhrul had earlier instructed the 25 BRTF, BRO to initiate necessary works for the improvement of the highway.
Despite the instruction, nothing has been done at the ground, he lamented.
The BAVA further urged the authorities concerned to act accordingly or else they will highlight the matter to the Ministry concerned besides launching democratic forms of protest to redress their grievances.
