Imphal, June 30 2013: The novel arrangement of keeping at least one oil-pump opened for 24 hours a day at Imphal for a month on roster system has been stopped due to certain difficulties.
The State Government introduced a system of keeping at least one oil pump opened for 24 hours a day for a month on rotation in order to cater to emergency requirements on June 1, last year.
Even though it was claimed that law and order situation had improved considerably, the oil pumps were kept opened at night by deploying police and VDF personnel at the particular oil pumps throughout the night.
Talking to , some retail outlets observed that the Government’s arrangement, though novel and appreciable, was not suited to the State or Imphal city.

Besides being a small State located at the international border, no people can be seen on roads after 11 pm because of the law and order situation.
In another word, Imphal city is totally shut down after 11 pm.
People coming to oil-pumps for re-fuelling late night is a rare occurrence even if they are going for urgent or emergency purposes.
Whereas pump operators had to stay awake the whole night with nozzles in their hands, very little or no people came to oil pumps for re-fuelling in late hours.
At the same time, the pump operators who were struggling hard to keep themselves were often targeted by miscreants and people intoxicated by drugs or alcohol hurling abuses and provocative remarks.
Again, VDF personnel treated the oil-pumps as one easily accessible source for their pocket money.
All these factors combined together to stop system keeping oil-pumps opened for 24 hours a day for one month on rotation, said the retailers.
