Imphal, July 16 2013: Business Correspondent Agents (BCA) or Customer Service Points (CSP) has decided to stop delivering pension amounts to pensioners until DCs and SPs of every district give an assurance not to harass and interfere in their duties.


Apart from working to make banking facilities accessible to all people of the State, BCAs/CSPs have been helping people open bank accounts and they have been delivering pension amounts to aged pensioners, disabled persons and widows.


BCA W Brojen went to deliver pension amounts to old age pensioners living under Phayeng ZP, Imphal West on July 15 when he was affronted and detained by Lamsang police.


Speaking to media persons today, area coordinator of UBI and Allahabad Bank, Manipur K Joy said that there 46 branches of UBI in Manipur and four branches of Allahabad bank.


For these banks, there are five BCAs at Ukhrul, four at Bishnupur, one at Tamenglong, six in Imphal East, seven in Imphal West, 17 in Thoubal and six in Churachandpur.


W Brojen said that he was at Phayeng taking along with him around Rs 50,000 for distribution to 200 beneficiaries when some policemen accosted him and questioned his works.


He was taken to the SP and he was detained till 5.30 pm.


He was also advised not distribute the money till the next day.


Saying that BCAs are wary of undue interference by police, Joy stated that no pensions would be delivered for UBI and Allahabad banks until DCs and SPs of every district give an assurance that they would not be harassed or disturbed again.
